Frozen, and no, we’re not talking about the blockbuster Disney film with the same name, is a horror film that proves one thing: you’d be completely screwed if you were stuck on a ski lift 50-feet above the ground if no one knew you were there and the ski resort is closed due to bad weather. Ouch, talk about your bad luck!

Either way, let’s take a look at 10 things you probably didn’t know about the movie.

The movie was shot entirely using only practical effects. There was no CGI or green screen used during filming. The cast members were actually suspended in the air on a ski lift while filming.

With the movie being shot practically, camera crew were actually too frightened to film scenes of dialogue with the actors, as they were afraid of heights. So, Writer/Director Adam Green and his Director of Photography had to shoot these scenes themselves. It didn’t help that Adam Green himself is terrified of heights.

While speaking at the Sundance Film Festival, Director Adam Green told a story about the location in which they shot the film being haunted by a suicide victim who had killed himself in the same spot they were filming only a year before production began. This story would later be confirmed by an audience member at the Q&A, saying they were friends with the victim.

During a screening of the film, a woman actually fainted when the character Dan jumps from the ski lift and falls 50-feet into the snow below.

With the actors and actress being suspended 50-feet above the ground, they didn’t have the option of using the bathroom at their own leisure. Therefore, Director Adam Green would try his best not to take bathroom breaks himself, out of respect for his cast.

Crew members decided to hop on a ski lift themselves before production began in an attempt to find the best spot to shoot the film. When they were 50-feet above the ground, one of the crew members suggested that this particular spot would be a great place to shoot the film. Suddenly, the ski lift stopped moving on its own. They took it as a sign of fate and decided this would be the perfect spot for the movie.

Before filming this movie, Director Adam Green had been to a ski resort.

Director Adam Green loves working with his friends and tries to use most of the same crew on every project he does. In the ski lodge, you’ll notice there’s a missing person poster. The man on the poster is actually B.J. McDonnel, whom is usually Adam Green’s camera operator. Unfortunately, McDonnell wasn’t able to work on this movie, as he was already scheduled to work on Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2.

Kevin Zegers decided to do the scene with the wolves beginning to swarm him without the aid of a stunt double. In one scene, you can see one of the wolves getting a little too close for comfort, which freaked out Zegers. Filming immediately stopped and the trainers had to step in.

Most of Dan’s death scene when he’s being devoured by wolves is off-camera, relying on the reactions of his friends to depict the intensity of the situation. However, there’s an uncut version of the scene that was filmed. Director Adam Green decided that the blood and gore was too out-of-place.
